Earlier in the pandemic all the consultants, junior doctors and allied healthcare professional within the UHCW Hand Centre were redeployed to the repurposed Rugby Urgent Treatment Centre (Hospital of St. Cross) to focus on delivering emergency trauma care for all ambulatory patients from Coventry and surrounding areas. We are presently moving forwards with recovery processes now that the UK government believe the pandemic is under control. We are rebuilding our elective clinic and operating facilities to ensure everything is being done to keep patients, the public and our staff safe, because the coronavirus still remains a threat. More advice can be found on our official hospital trust web page - please click here.
The hand surgery team in Coventry are also expanding the use of our open-access planned-care and emergency follow-up clinics. More patients will be discharged directly following surgery or treatment, in order to reduce hospital visits, travel and avoid further exposure. Routine wound check appointments at local GP surgeries may not be possible, and we have therefore prepared some additional guidance leaflets below. A further endeavour to reduce hospital footfall, crowding and potential exposure, is the development of new remote video-clinics, a therapy-led virtual carpal tunel assessment service, and virtual wound checks. More guidance can also be found in the leaflets below.
