Michael David is an NHS Consultant Hand Surgeon working in the Coventry and Warwickshire region. He graduated in 2004 with two medical degrees from the University of St. Andrews (BSc Hons 1st Class) and the University of Manchester (MBCbB). He completed his MRCS within 2 years and became an Advanced Life Support Instructor during his Basic Surgical Training in Manchester, where he also lectured undergraduate students. In 2007 he transferred his training to Birmingham, joining the Birmingham Orthopaedic Higher Surgical Training Programme in 2009. In April 2015 he gained his FRCS (Tr & Orth) qualification, and received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in November 2016.

Michael has created several patient management and research database systems that are still in use across the West Midlands, and his research work has been published and presented both across the country as well as internationally in Ireland, The Netherlands, USA and Canada. Michael has taught medical students at the Universities of Birmingham, Manchester and Warwick, and recently was awarded a PGCert qualification in Medical Education through the University of Dundee. Michael completed two fellowships at the prestigious dedicated hand units in Birmingham and Manchester in 2017 and 2018, learning about management of the hand in post-stroke adult spasticity and wrist arthroscopy along with developing the roll out of the new injection therapy for Dupuytren's disease (collagenase clostridium histolyticum, Xiapex). He presented this work at the BSSH national winter conference in Edinburgh in 2017 and published it in the prestigious Journal of Hand Surery (American volume). Michael used his Fellowship experience to also complete the UK Hand Diploma (in affiliation with the BSSH and University of Manchester), and has completed two overseas visiting fellowships at Ganga Hospital (Coimbatore, India) and the Tetraplegia Hand Unit at Iasis Hospital (Paphos, Cyprus). Michael is interested in promoting the use of technology to improve patient experience and the patient journey. He has started work to improve early discharge and streamline the rehabilitation process through online resources. In April 2020, Michael took over the role of webmaster for the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH), and sits on their communications committee.
